To Chicago and Back.

Less than a handful of people knew that H and I were on our way to Chicago last Thursday. We were going incognito to surprise my very good friend Abbie for her bridal shower on Saturday.

We spent Thursday and Friday with the Schmidt family in Lake in the Hills, IL. I've been friends with both Zach and Sarah for a LONG time. Zach and I were friends in high school and kept in touch during college. When he started dating Sarah, she and I hit it off really well too. Now we talk just about weekly and see each other when we can. We joke that Sarah stole me from being Zach's friend. (Sadly, no pictures of the grown-ups...just the boys!)

Micah crawling through the tube at the park with his dad Zach close behind.

Their son Micah is 11 months old and it was so neat to watch H and Micah interact and "play" for a couple days.Saturday morning we got up and ready and headed into the city to meet up with Melissa for some breakfast at Tre Kronor. My favorite! And seriously, most of my trips to Chicago end up missing this sweet Swedish cafe right across from North Park. So glad we were able to enjoy the Vanilla Orange French Toast. And what a joy to see that H loved it too!

After breakfast Melissa dropped me off to surprise Abbie at the shower, and she took H to her apartment to hang out with her and her husband Stephen.

me, Stephen, Melissa and H. H had a great time with those two! They're great babysitters!

The shower was very fun. Though Abbie had her suspicions, she was "a little" surprised!

She got some fun gifts and is counting down the days to her September 1 wedding. Abbie and her mom.

Alicen and me. (Hi Alicen!)

The bridesmaids: Brooke, Julie, the bride Abbie, Rachel, Tiffany and me.

The rest of our time we just relaxed with both Abbie and Chris. Had a nice dinner out. Chatted over coffee. Visited their so cute new apartment (H absolutely loved their fireplace!)
I got to try on my dress for Abbie's wedding and was dismayed to find out that the zipper is broken. Abbie's already got it handled, and thankfully it fit perfectly.

A great weekend in one of my favorite places with some of my favorite people. (Plus I came home to a nice clean house and garage and a husband who missed me very much!)

We'll be back soon Chicago...very soon!
